Ed, thanks for the comment. We appreciate your follow and comments. When we take a chainsaw to any institution, things can spin out of control. We saw this with Elon's venture on Twitter/X. It's hard to think he has improved the forum. But when we mess inside groups like NOAA without careful reflection, it is hard to find the fat among all the great programs. The coming episode with Hawaii State Sen Chris Lee is very interesting. Watch for the solution they offer the insurance industry to recoup some of the 4 billion lost from Lahina Wildfires. No doubt we have some bloat in our Gov't, but taking a chainsaw to trim is not the way. We are dealing with people's lives. Chris's example of the man who moved to take a new job, and bought a newer vehicle and NOW he's without a job! We don't treat people that way!
I hope we see a a change in 2026, but it will take years to rebuild our organizations that have been gutted.
I'm an old man (70 yrs old). Over these 70 years, 2 things have taken place:
1). We are drier and warmer.
2). The accuracy of weather forecasting has drastically improved over the past 5 - 6 decades.
